Technical Support Engineer – Dublin 7 (1-Year Temporary Contract)

Overview of the Role
We are seeking a Technical Support Engineer to join our team on a 1-year temporary contract. The successful candidate will provide front-line technical support to end users, resolve technical issues, and ensure seamless IT operations. This role is primarily based onsite in Dublin 7 but may occasionally require support in other local offices.
IT Support team operates 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a rotation-based on-call schedule to provide 24/7 operational support for critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
• The implementation and support for information security directives as mandated by policy and EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
• Log and track all calls to the IT Helpdesk on the hospital call logging system
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues where possible
• User administration (new user accounts / password resets)
• In-house applications administration, support and troubleshooting
• Liaise with third party vendors around support issues
• Monitor daily backup logs and escalate issues
• Escalate technical issues to Level 2/Level 3/or vendor support where needed
• Printer troubleshooting and escalation to managed printer supplier
• Assist with IT project work where required
• Basic network troubleshooting
• Vulnerability monitoring and support
• Take ownership of ongoing technical issues

Qualifications and Experience
- At least 2 years of relevant 1st-line/technical support experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft systems (e.g., Windows 10/XP, MS Office) and a solid understanding of PC hardware setup.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full Irish driving license.
- Fluent in English and eligible to work in Ireland.
Desirable:
- Experience in a healthcare setting
- Zebra printer configuration and testing
- Microsoft certifications
- ITIL Foundation certification
- Familiarity with network protocols, ITSM service desk tools, and ticket management systems.
