Senior Microsoft SQL Server Expert
 

Location: Hybrid (3 days on-site in Dublin 8 / 2 days remote)

Start Date: December 2025 / January 2026

Work Pattern: Full-time, Monday–Friday (7.5 hours/day). Occasional out-of-hours work may be required.

 

Role Overview

Seeking a highly experienced Senior Microsoft SQL Server Expert to provide specialist support in managing, optimizing, and securing Microsoft SQL environments across multiple organizations. The role includes technical leadership, solution design, performance optimization, advisory support, documentation, and knowledge transfer.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure availability, performance, resilience, sizing, capacity planning, and scalability across all SQL Server environments.
  • Manage high availability, resilience configurations, clustering, and database replication.
  • Administer Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
  • Work with Azure PaaS/IaaS/SaaS components including:
  • Azure Functions, App Services, Logic Apps, Key Vault (incl. EKM integration)
  • Elastic pools, geo-replication, and scaling strategies
  • Maintain and optimize database objects (indexes, tables, views, stored procedures, sequences, snapshots).
  • Perform routine database tuning, indexing, and housekeeping to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Implement and manage SQL Server encryption solutions (TDE, SSL, Always Encrypted, etc.).
  • Manage Windows Server environments, including physical and virtual clustering.
  • Coordinate with storage teams regarding SAN and database-related storage volumes.
  • Monitor and report on database usage, performance, concurrency, and transaction volumes.
  • Identify and manage database security issues, audit trails, and forensic investigations.
  • Design and maintain backup, archiving, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Implement event management, alerting, and monitoring systems.
  • Provide third-level support for database-related incidents.
  • Create and maintain database standards, policies, and documentation.
  • Engage with client organizations to review environments, recommend improvements, and support implementation.
  • Provide knowledge transfer, mentoring, and best practice guidance.

 

 

Mandatory Requirements

Experience:

Minimum 10 years’ experience in senior SQL Server administration and architecture, including all areas listed above.

Qualifications:

  • Industry-recognized SQL certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate / Data Analyst Associate or equivalent).
  • Degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

Availability:

  • Must be available to start December 2025 or January 2026.

English Proficiency:

  • Native or fluent. If not native, CEFR C2 certification or demonstration of fluency during interview.

Driving License / Travel:

  • May be required; evidence may be requested.

Important: 

  • Must remain in the role for at least the first calendar month from deployment (continuity requirement).
  • Full attendance and active collaboration expected across all assigned entities and stakeholder groups.

 

Desirable Competencies

  • Experience applying the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) and Well-Architected Framework (WAF).
  • Proven experience developing and implementing use cases in real-world enterprise or public-sector environments.
  • Demonstrated success in reviewing environments, recommending improvements, and delivering those improvements effectively.
