Senior Solutions Architect
Location: Smithfield, Dublin 1 - Hybrid (2 days on-site / 3 days remote)
Start Date: January 2026
Duration: 12 Months
Work Pattern: Full-time, Monday–Friday.
Role Overview
Seeking a highly experienced Senior Solutions Architect to lead architectural strategy, design, security, and modernisation across a complex and diverse technology estate. This role requires extensive experience in multi-platform enterprise environments, cloud services, networking, automation, and legacy system transformation. The position involves strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, implementation oversight, and people leadership.
This role will evolve over time and may include additional responsibilities aligned with business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage security and technology architectures across key systems.
- Define technology solution and environment roadmaps for scalability, resilience, and capacity planning.
- Ensure alignment of architecture with operational and business priorities across a wide-ranging IT estate.
- Collaborate with technology partners to implement standards and roadmaps.
- Identify and communicate architecture and security risks.
- Ensure solutions are secure and resilient through effective application of security and continuity principles.
- Define, maintain, and validate architecture standards and reference frameworks.
- Develop full technical and security architectural roadmaps for enterprise platforms.
- Communicate architecture guidance to stakeholders and ensure adherence.
- Evaluate and design technical solutions across all IT functional areas.
- Lead architectural oversight, project governance, and budget planning.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and support to high-performing teams.
- Produce and present regular progress updates to senior leadership.
Technical Environment / Platforms
The role requires strong experience in the following areas:
- Infrastructure & Operating Systems: IBM Power Systems, x86 platforms, AIX, RedHat, Windows.
- Middleware: IBM DB2, MQ, WebSphere Application Server.
- Cloud Platforms: AWS and Azure (including security domains and controls).
- Networking: LAN/WAN, routers, firewalls, switches, VPNs.
- Virtualization: IBM virtualization, VMware, Microsoft-based technologies.
- Storage & Backup: Enterprise storage systems and IBM Spectrum Protect.
- DevOps & Automation: CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, workflow automation.
The technology environment includes SaaS, IaaS, ERP, Digital, Content Management, GIS, Middleware, and requires modernization of legacy systems.
Mandatory Requirements (Pass/Fail)
- Minimum 7+ years extensive professional experience in a senior architectural role.
- Proven experience leading major complex projects or programmes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate high-performing technical teams.
- Strong theoretical grounding and ability to apply architectural best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree (NFQ Level 7) or higher in Computer Science, IT, Software, Cloud Computing, or related discipline;
OR 12+ years’ ICT architecture experience.
- Fluent English communication. If not native, CEFR C2 proficiency or equivalent.
Key Experience / Competencies
- Experience in national-scale digital, mobile, or transport service delivery solutions.
- Track record delivering business change and enterprise transformation programmes.
- Broad understanding across security, networking, AI, unified communications, cloud migration.
- Strong background in cybersecurity, including Kubernetes-related security.
- Experience working in AWS and Azure security domains.
- Understanding of PCI / P2PE environments and secure field device deployment.
- Knowledge of payment systems and secure payment gateway integration.
- Experience with Microsoft Business Central and financial system integration (Open Banking / FP&A advantageous).
- Hands-on experience with IoT networks and device connectivity.
- Strong experience with ServiceNow workflow and service integration.
- In-depth API architecture knowledge including lifecycle management and API gateways.
- Ability to adapt to evolving business and technology environments.
- CI/CD pipeline experience; familiarity securing Terraform, ARM, PowerShell, AWS CLI, Azure CLI, network edge controls.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Bitbucket, GitHub.
