Senior IT Project Manager – Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 Migration (Contract)

We are seeking a senior project professional to lead a complex enterprise-wide cloud transformation for one of Ireland's leading higher education institutions.
This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a high-profile migration programme involving thousands of users across academic, administrative, and research environments. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of internal specialists and external delivery partners, ensuring the successful migration of staff and students from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 while maintaining service continuity and delivering against agreed timelines, budget, and quality objectives.

About the Role
As the Senior IT Project Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of a strategic Microsoft 365 migration programme. Working closely with senior leadership, technical teams, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors, you will oversee planning, governance, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and successful implementation of the migration.
This role requires someone who has successfully delivered enterprise-scale Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 migrations, understands the technical and organisational complexities involved, and has experience operating within large, complex organisations—ideally in the higher education sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of a large-scale migration from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365.
• Develop and manage the overall project plan, timeline, budget, governance, and resource allocation.
• Coordinate multiple technical and business workstreams to ensure successful programme delivery.
• Manage internal project teams, external consultants, and technology vendors.
• Drive stakeholder engagement across executive leadership, IT teams, academic departments, and business units.
• Establish and maintain project governance, reporting, risk, issue, dependency, and change management processes.
• Ensure all testing, validation, and quality assurance activities are completed before go-live.
• Provide regular progress reporting to programme governance boards and senior stakeholders.
• Ensure project deliverables are completed on schedule, within budget, and to agreed quality standards.

• Proven experience managing at least one large-scale migration from Google Workspace (Google Workspace for Education or Enterprise) to Microsoft 365.
• Extensive experience delivering Microsoft 365 migration programmes involving Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), and associated collaboration services.
• Demonstrated success managing enterprise migrations involving thousands of users with minimal business disruption.
• Strong understanding of migration planning, coexistence strategies, identity management, data migration, user adoption, change management, and post-migration support.
• Experience coordinating technical migration teams, infrastructure specialists, security teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
• Proven ability to manage complex project risks, dependencies, governance, budgets, and delivery timelines.
• Experience leading enterprise cloud transformation programmes using both Agile and traditional project management methodologies.

• Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional Project Management certification (PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, AgilePM, MSP, or equivalent).
• Minimum 15 years' experience managing complex enterprise IT projects.
• Demonstrated experience delivering strategic cloud transformation programmes.
