The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Information Security Architect – Intermediate to support a major public-sector programme in Ireland.

This is an excellent opportunity for a security professional with strong enterprise architecture, cybersecurity governance and regulatory experience to play a key role in strengthening security maturity, supporting NIS2 compliance, and helping shape cybersecurity strategy and resilience for critical services.

The successful candidate will work across security, technology, risk and business functions, acting as a trusted and authoritative voice on cybersecurity matters.

Location & Working Arrangements

The role can be based in Dublin or Cork.

A blended working arrangement is available. Under the client’s working policy, staff using blended working are expected to work at least two days per week onsite. Contractors may also avail of blended working; however, depending on the requirements of the reporting manager and programme, a greater onsite presence may occasionally be required.

• Working commitment: Full-time
• Expected working days: 231 days per annum
• Hours: 8 hours per day, excluding lunch/rest breaks
• Standard hours: Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00
• Excludes Irish bank and church holidays

Key Responsibilities

The successful Information Security Architect will:

• Support the organisation’s NIS2 compliance, readiness and cybersecurity maturity programme.
• Develop and maintain security architecture standards, principles and patterns.
• Contribute to future cybersecurity strategy, including the Census 2027 Cyber Security Strategy.
• Act as a trusted and authoritative cybersecurity advisor across the organisation.
• Help embed and operationalise cybersecurity frameworks, standards and controls.
• Contribute to security-related decision-making and develop supporting business cases and justification documentation.
• Support preparation for European Statistical System (ESS) IT Security Framework audits and other security assessments.
• Lead or support the development of Census 2027 Cyber Incident Response Plans and Cyber Crisis Management Procedures.
• Design and facilitate cyber incident response and tabletop exercises for Census and enterprise services.
• Identify opportunities to improve security and proactively recommend practical, achievable solutions.
• Produce high-quality security architecture documentation, risk assessments, standards and implementation roadmaps.

Mandatory Experience & Qualifications

To be considered, candidates must have:

• At least 6 years’ substantial professional experience in cybersecurity, information security architecture or a related security discipline.
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity or a related discipline.
• NIST-related training.
• NIS2-related training or demonstrable practical implementation experience.
• At least one of the following certifications:
  • ISC2 CISSP
  • ISACA CISM
  • ISACA CISA
  • ISO 27001 Lead Auditor
  • ISO 27001 Lead Implementer
• Availability to commence from mid-October 2026.
• Fluency in English.

Technical & Security Expertise

You should have demonstrable experience implementing cybersecurity frameworks and controls across enterprise environments, including:

• NIST Cybersecurity Framework
• NIS2 Directive
• ISO 27001 / ISO 27002
• Cyber resilience and incident response frameworks
• Cybersecurity governance and compliance
• Risk management frameworks
• Security policy, standards and procedure development

Enterprise Infrastructure

Strong understanding across the wider IT technology stack, including:

• Applications and databases
• Windows and Linux operating systems
• Hypervisors
• IP networks – WAN/LAN
• Storage and backup networks/media
• Security technologies
• Identity and Access Management
• Cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure, with AWS experience also relevant
• Cloud governance and security architecture
• Entra ID / Azure AD and federated identity
• Cloud networking
• Cloud security monitoring and logging
• SaaS, PaaS and IaaS security controls

Cloud Security & Architecture

You will ideally have significant experience in:

• Designing and implementing secure cloud architectures in Azure and/or AWS.
• Applying security best practices and controls across public cloud platforms.
• Cloud governance and security baselines.
• Landing zone architectures.
• Assessing cloud solutions against regulatory, security and compliance requirements.
• Integrating cloud architecture with enterprise security and governance frameworks.

Regulatory & Industry Experience

Documented experience with the following is highly important:

• NIS2 Directive
• NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF)
• ISO 27001 / 27002
• GDPR
• National Cyber Security Centre guidance and requirements
• Risk management frameworks
• Cybersecurity governance and compliance

Experience developing, reviewing and maintaining cybersecurity policies, standards, procedures and associated documentation is also required.

Cyber Incident Response & Resilience

Experience in the following areas is expected:

• Cyber Incident Response Planning
• Security tabletop exercises
• Crisis Management Planning
• Security playbook development
• Cyber resilience planning
• Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity integration
• Supporting critical or high-profile digital services

Business & Stakeholder Skills

This role requires more than technical expertise. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with senior stakeholders and translating complex security issues into clear business recommendations.
